Tips for filing out an Agricultural Zoning Application [INFOGRAPHIC]

When starting your agricultural zoning application, you should stop in your local county office to speak with someone for more information about your area’s zoning restrictions.

Its good to educate yourself about your county before filing out your application, some counties provide their own zoning maps and ordinances online. But In other counties it can prove to be difficult to find current information on how your land is zoned and what that counties permitted uses are.

Depending on the size of your project, will determine if you should have professional help or not, typically the options include requesting a variance, special exception or a rezone. If the land has been allowed to exist out of compliance with the zoning ordinance you may be a legal nonconforming use.

Even if your project is permitted in your zoning district you will most likely still need a building permit. If your project is not a permitted use you may need to ask your county to rezone your property.
